Fallback Feature for External Featured Images?

    ! Wrapping up images for Webp and falling back to Jpg is so cool

    In my website, I use featured images little bit differently. I keep them outside of my WordPress instance and place a URI. That way website stays lighter.

    Can I use plugin’s fallback feature for this kind of linking?

    I hope it’s reasonable because we eventually write a URI for featured pictures when we create a post.. Would it matter is it’s internal or external?
    (Instead of mysite.com/uploads/featured_image.png I will write othersite.com/webpics/featured_image.png)
