extra widgets are usually implemented via corresponding plugins.

When you want to go to the widgets section, I recommend NOT clicking the widgets link in the admin bar at the top. That opens up widgets options in the customizer, and I do not like working with that interface.
I recommend first clicking on Dashboard. Once in the dashboard, then click Appearance –> widgets. It’s a much better interface for working with the widgets and the widget areas.
Like alchymyth said above, the addition of widgets that are not part of WordPress core is the result of their corresponding plug-ins.
There are some recommended plug-ins if you check the themes README.text file that are in addition to the contact form. One adds a maps widget, and the other a social media widget (the same ones used in the demo at http://demo1.chirothemes.com ). So make sure you check out that file.
