    Hi,

Searching used to yield the correct results. However, at some point over the last few months, it began including extra items with no direct relevance to the search content.

For example, searching Paterson finds Paterson songs but also some other things that are irrelevant. The search seems to be going off of subpage content to link things that are different such as songs from different authors but in the same album, though it hasn’t worked this way before.

Admin search has the same results. The theme is Twenty Twenty-One which is overridden by Oxygen. Nothing has changed with the site except updating plugins and WordPress itself. The settings have not been touched.

Is there anything relatively recent with the plugin or WordPress that might explain this change in behavior? Any suggestions on what I could try to correct this?

    Thanks

How is the data organised? For example, the song “The Stockman’s Last Bed”, how is it related to the album “Rovers, Stockmen and Bullockies”?

Please enable the Relevanssi debugging mode from the Relevanssi debugging settings, I’ll see how Relevanssi sees that post.

Debugging mode is enabled. I did not design the site, but songs and albums seem to be paired using custom post types.

    I appreciate the help, Mikko.

Relevanssi is set to index all custom fields. The word “paterson” appears in the meta description, which is stored in the hidden _seopress_analysis_data custom field.

You can switch Relevanssi to index only visible custom fields. This will remove the unrelevant results, once you reindex.

That did the trick. Thanks a lot, Mikko!
