Extended blog overview page

Hello everyone and thank you for taking the time to read this.

I use a theme from Themeforest which is mainly made for websites, not for blogs. Now I want to include a blog in my site. The problem is that the theme only comes with a chronologically sorted blog post overview.

I however would like something like this – especially the section “lifestyle” (2 previews with images & text and a list).

I would like to be able to chose single posts or all recent posts from a category to show up.

Is there a plug-in (free or paid) that does this? I have found Content View and it seems okay but isn’t quite there yet. Do you know any alternatives?
