Excluding a categorie

Hello,
I’d like to exclude a category from the category listing (to use it as a about style storage)
I have searched the wiki and http://wiki.wordpress.org/wp_list_cats says to use exclude.
If I do <?php wp_list_cats('exclude=about'); ?> the category is still visible, how do I have to do ?
