    Hi,

I recently had to 301 redirect my homepage (domain.com/) to another page (domain.com/page/). But now I’m left with a 301 home page indexed in the sitemap, which I want to remove.

I set the ‘Allow search engines to show this Page in search results?’ to ‘No’ in the Advanced section of the Yoast SEO plugin for my front page but it still shows in the sitemaps, so I’m guessing it’s picking it up from somewhere else since the page has the slug-less url (domain.com). How do I remove it from the sitemap?

  • Hi,

We would like some more information.

    1. We had another recent release. Can you confirm you are using the most recent Yoast SEO Premium, v15.6.2? If you update, does the issue resolve? This guide explains more about how to update: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-can-i-update-my-premium-plugin/.

    2. Can you provide a link to the sitemap?

    3. Can you let us know what URL exactly you want to remove from the sitemap?

    Hi,

yes, I am using Yoast 15.6.2 (Free version).
This is the link to my sitemap: https://gamblineers.com/sitemap_index.xml
I want to remove the first link from the pages sitemap, ‘gamblineers.com’. The site has a 301 redirect, so I think it’s better if it’s not included in the sitemap.

    Thank you!

    Hi,

Oops! Using the free version is fine. It is not possible to remove the homepage from the sitemap. This appears to be an issue.

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. We apologize for the trouble you are experiencing with our plugin. An issue report is currently open with our development team for this issue.

In the meantime, we suggest signing up for our newsletter as that is where we will announce product changes and updates. You may sign-up for it here https://yoast.com/ by scrolling towards the bottom to complete the sign-up field.

However, can you elaborate more on why you want to remove the homepage URL from the sitemap? Did you want to show different content on the homepage and thought redirecting URLs is the easiest solution? We ask as we want to see if a workaround is possible.

I’m already subscribed, so I’ll be waiting for the updates 🙂

Basically my front page used to be a ‘summary’ of my blog while the page I redirected it to is the actual blog. Because my front page had a lot of backlinks but no valuable content, I decided to redirect it. It seemed to be a waste of backlinks and authority.

I was thinking about doing it the other way around, so redirecting my blog page to my front page but then I’d have to move all my content there which is a lot more work then simply redirecting my front page.

There is logic which double check existence home page into page sitemap. It’s hard to remove it.Only way is the filter wpseo_sitemap_url.

We are going ahead and marking this issue as resolved due to inactivity. If you require any further assistance please create a new issue.
