Excerpts in Arcadia template

Hi-
I’m trying to get my blog posts to have excerpts on the homepage with a read more link to click to the full blog post but when I add the excerpt section in the admin to the posts and update it’s not changing the actual pages. Do I need to add code to the back end to make this work?
