My suggestion to you is to contact the theme developer.

if not caused by your theme, then possibly caused by some bad plugin (?)
temporarily switch to the default theme Twenty Fourteen – if that solves the issue, the problenm is caused by your theme;
if it does not, then deactivate all plugins, to see if that solves the issue; then reactivate one at the time to locate the faulty one.

I found the bug. It seems that if my “Excerpts” column in the post contains html tags, this shows up at the top. Is there any way to remove these tags from the excerpts of ALL posts??

the html tags are likely added to the excerpts by a plugin…
