Excerpt Showing “0”

    Hi,

    I’m having an issue with my excerpts on the posts page. I have the excerpt length set to 40 in the Blog settings which works fine for most posts on my site. However some of my posts only contain videos and no (or very few) words, and so they just a “0”.

    Is there a way to change this so the excerpt would just remain blank rather than filling in a 0 please?

    Hi @troventrip,

    Can you please share a page where that 0 is visible to understand the problem?
    Do you mean that there is an exact string/number 0 which appears on those pages?

    It’s not expected if I understand correctly so I’m interested to check why this could be happening.

    Apologies for the late reply, I must have missed the notification of your reply.

    The issue can be seen on this page for the top post (The Winter of Our Discontent).

    It may be replacing the Read more… when there is no text in the post.

    Hi @troventrip,

    Thank you for the clarification.

    I see the issue in your screenshot but can’t replicate it.

    I’ve created a few posts and also made one empty just with embedded video inside it.

    On the category page – I see that description is empty and no “O” – https://vertis.d.pr/SpnqkR

    How are you embedding the video into your posts, maybe it’s related to the method you do it. Thanks!

    Hi,

    For the videos I’m using the VideoPress block, but I don’t think it’s related to that as the issue also occurs when there is no video and just no text. Interesting on your replication, that’s exactly how I want mine to look 🙂

    For the excerpts I’m not filling in the meta excerpt box when creating a new post, it seems to be just pulling the first 40 words from the post itself. Could it be something to do with that?

    Hello @troventrip,

    I am afraid I am not able to replicate either. I kindly recommend trying to do a plugin conflict test, try to back up your site, for security purposes, and deactivate your plugins one by one to see if any of them causes this issue to appear.

    Please let us know if this solves the issue.
