Excerpt of category_description

    Hi

    I want to display an excerpt of every category description on my index page. For example only 100 signs.

    I got a code:

    <?php echo category_description($cat->term_id); ?>

    It displays every category_description above every category link. Now I need to make it short. How to do excpert of category_descripion ?
