On wednesday morning, I experienced the dreaded white screen of death…After following the many tips found on the forum (deleting plugins, theme…) and nothing worked, I contacted Bluehost my website host for help. I noticed at the same time that when logging in to my dashboard, it was completely empty save for the My activity box where I could see my 2 blog posts.

3 days on, Bluehost have re-uploaded some corrupted core files and a week old back up of my website is now up and running. However, I still experience the empty dashboard meaning that I cannot add any content… Similarly, before all this started, when i was logged in as an admin and went onto my website there was always the option to click on “edit” at the bottom of a page to edit this particular page. This no longer exists.

So now I have lost 1 week’s worth of work on my new website (lesson learned regarding back up…) but I cannot get on with rebuilding the site to the way it should be. Not sure if the link to the site is suseful for this problem but here it is: epi-connect.eu

    Thanks for your help

did your table of with user permissions somehow get corrupted?
can you get into phpmyadmin inside bluehost control panel to check on it?

I am having issues going into phpmyadmin inside bluehost control panel which does not bode well.
I’ll contact bluehost again about that but really don’t know how to regain control of my website as soon as possible in the meantime.

Webhosting with bluehost includes access to phpmyadmin area from the control panel area. You will need the user name and password for your database.
Database username and password is available in your WP-config file (get this in the bluehostfile manager area or via FTP)

ok so now I can see my database user name and password (I don’t remember ever setting those and wonder if they got tempered with while bluehost was re-uploading wp-config files at their end).
The database username and password are different from the ones I use to log onto wordpress.org.
I have tried changing the database username and password from within phpmyAdmin (in users table) to match my WordPress credentials but WordPress won’t let me login with those.

1-your wordpress user name and password to get into your dashboard does NOT match the username and password to get inside the database

2-what procedure did you use to update the user assigned with administrator role within in the database?

3-don’t mess around in the database without having any backup or copy.

Thank you contentiskey for your tips. Much appreciated!
After re-installation of wordpress, 2 attempts to re-upload my backup files, and creating a new database and user, it seems now that I am back on track… not thanks to Bluehost!
