    A user just notified me of a problem so I went and checked it out. When you attempt to subscribe either via the popup or a form on a standard page, everything looks good until you hit the button and then you get:

    “ERROR: Sorry, there was an error. Please be sure JavaScript and Cookies are enabled in your browser and try again.”

    My host recently upgraded me from PHP 5.x to 7.x, could that be the problem? If so, is there a workaround because they are starting to charge for continued use of 5.x.

  • Turns out it was a conflict with WP-SpamShield. Enabling the “Disable anti-spam for miscellaneous forms.” option in SpamShield solves the problem.
