Hi,
A few things first…
1) Can you upload other files, such as a simple image file?
2) Does uploading work from the Admin List, the front-side of the site or neither?
3) If uploading works from the Admin List, but not the front-side, try changing the uploader visibility to all to see if it works then.
TIP – Open your web browser’s console view and see if there any errors related to uploading during the process. Also, errors created by your theme or other plugins can break or cause problems with the upload process.
Hi there, Mitchell! Thanks a lot for your swift response!
So, here we go:
1) Nothing gets uploaded. I thought they were, because I used another plugin and files did indeed get uploaded, but sorry, my bad… with SFL they don’t.
File doesn’t get uploaded at all and I get an error message “Upload Error: file.jpg”
This happens with all files (I tried .txt and .jpg too). See this screenshot:
2) Unfortunately, neither
3) Did it. No change :/
I also tried to see if Wordfence, for instance, stopped the plugin or something, but no, it doesn’t seem to be the case. I also followed your tip and the error I got on the console was this:
ee-uploader.js?v=2:250 POST http://www.dynamic-fet.eu/wp-content/plugins/simple-file-list/ee-upload-engine.php 404 (Not Found)
eeUploadFile @ ee-uploader.js?v=2:250
eeUploadProcessor @ ee-uploader.js?v=2:152
onclick @ (index):282
Why is this php file not found?
I am trying .txt, .jpg, .pdf, alas, no difference…
The file should be there, that is the proper URL.
Please deactivate, delete, and then re-install the plugin. No settings will be lost.
Hi Mitchell!
I already did! I tried that too, unfortunately, no change :/
Okay, please confirm that the file is actually there. I bet it is.
Please contact your web host regarding this. It may be related to their restrictions for the URL.
Hi there Mitchell! I finally solved it!
It was a server side problem. You see, my access to the server is very limited as this is an educational institution, so, I have no FTP, no cPanel, no error_log and I have to connect via VPN in order to have access to the admin panel!
After a long discussion with the sysAdmin of the educational institution yesterday, I realised he had some security measures on the server that he had to lift up and after some trial and error we got it to work.
Unfortunately I don’t know exactly what settings he had, so that I could write them here for future reference for anybody else that would have the same problem, however, with “normal” hosting, I doubt it that others will have the same problem, as this was a very strict environment with TOO many security measures.
In any case, I wanted to thank you kindly for your time and effort to assist me with my problem, I really appreciate it!
Kind regards,
Dimitris
PS: Stay safe with the pandemic!
PS: I love the way it works and if I convince my clients I will of course proceed with purchasing the full version! <3
That’s great. So glad you got it solved. These kinds of issues leave me feeling very helpless.
Yes, all of my state of Minnesota, and the USA is shutting down. My wife is an RN at the local hospital. She must work, so I worry for her very much.
Greece is under a national lockdown of everything (which I consider 100% proper!). Cases numbers are on the rise, but not like Spain and Italy, fortunately!
In any case, let me not convert this thread to a chat. You can close this matter as resolved. I will get back to you very soon! Your plugin works like a charm!
You guys stay safe and healthy! Talk to you soon!
