Error On Activation

    I’ve gotten an error when pressing on the ‘Go Ahead, Activate SSL’ on three different sites. All the same error:

    Fatal error: Call to a member function flush_rules() on a non-object in /home2/vanco/public_html/mywebsite.com/wp-includes/rewrite.php on line 273

    When I log back in the the site settings for the site location includes the https:// – SSL checkers pronounce all is well with the certificate.

    But, the message to ‘Go Ahead, activate SSL’ persists.

    Any thoughts? How do I get the message to go away?

    Hi Stephen,

    This is a known issue, which is hard to reproduce, and therefore hard to fix. The issue is a result of different plugins flushing the rewrite rules at the same moment: the last one to flush gets the error you see. Following best practices I flush them on the “shutdown” hook, but other plugins do this differently. Can you provide me with a list of plugins? That way I check if I can reproduce the issue.

    A workaround is to comment out or remove line 97 in wp-content/plugins/really-simple-ssl/class-admin.php

    add_action( 'shutdown', 'flush_rewrite_rules');

    You can do this without fear of plugin updates: this function only executes once on activation.

    Possibly I need to remove this line altogether, but that would mean the user will have to do this manually, by re-saving the permalinks.

    In case you haven’t activated all sites yet: I have committed a new version on Github, in which the flushing can be optionally disabled.
