I just updated BackWPup to 5.2.1 (from 4.x, where x is some value I didn’t note before upgrading). When I try to create a backup using the new interface and get to the “Where?” step, I choose FTP, fill in the required information and then click “Save and Test”. After between 30 and. 60 seconds, I get an error message, “Error in cloud configuration.” I have double checked the information I provided and it appears correct. So, I don’t know what is causing the problem. In the new interface, there is no way to turn on debugging, so I can get further information. So, I am stuck. Is there anyway to delete 5.2.1 and return to version 4 of the plugin, which had a much more useful interface?

    Hi,

Thanks for reaching out and sorry for the trouble with the FTP setup.

This issue can sometimes occur if the FTP details are incorrect or if the connection attempt is timing out before completing. We’ve seen this happen particularly when the default timeout is too short.

Could you please try the following:

    • Double-check your FTP credentials and path.
    • Increase the timeout to 600 seconds on the server level before clicking “Save and Test”. This can help avoid false errors due to slow server responses.

Let me know how it goes.

    Best regards,
    The BackWPup Team

Thanks for the suggested solution. However, it did not work. The credentials work using the legacy job specification (although, there is no way of checking, since the FTP tab no longer appears for legacy jobs). I increased the timeout value on both the server and the plugin to 600 seconds. However, the error message appears in 3-4 minutes, much less than 10 minutes, which is equivalent to 600 seconds.

I reran the save and test on the backup. Using Wireshark, I monitored traffic to the FTP server machine and no traffic appeared. That suggested the FTP test wasn’t making it past the firewall in the router. So, I looked at the Firewall logs and there were no entries for blocked packets. My guess is the test doesn’t get to the point where packets are sent to the FTP Server.

Hang on. I was looking at the wrong router log. The Firewall log shows port 21 being blocked. I am investigating.

Mea Culpa. I am using a non-standard port for FTP access through the firewall (using NAT). Once I corrected that the test passed. Sorry for the mixup.
