Can you give us a short feedback, if the patch which comes with 4.1.7 works for you?

The error occur when we use post thumbnail, otherwise the plugin is working fine.
But without thumbnail ( PIC) it is of no use.

Can you tell me what you have setted for thumbnail width and height?
And what have you setted in (WordPress settings, left sidebar) Settings > Media > Large size?
In mi case I use 160×143 pixels… and I don’t have anything on the sidebar

Which size have your original images you use for upload for thumbnails? If they are very small?
150×150 pixels it’s the messure..in fact I have the same values that the ones that you show me on your screenshot.
And for ‘Medium size’ and ‘Large size’? Your width is bigger than the ‘Thumbnail size’ and the thumbnail image is not choosen. We code a fallback up to Large size.
Can you choose for ‘Thumbnail size’ 200×200? Or/and upload a new image?
I see your point, the problem is the size of the image, I have replaced some of them and now it’s working fine.

we made a bugfix for this issue with smaller uploaded images.
Are you familair with GitHub? Because you can download the code there (https://github.com/mkrdip/category-posts-widget) and copy it to your plugin folder ([your-wp-installation]/wp-content/plugins/category-posts-widget) to your wordpress installation.
I have followed your instructions and when I use the updated bugfix I get this message: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘[‘ in /nfs/c06/h04/mnt/154817/domains/indicepolitico.com/html/wp-content/plugins/category-posts/cat-posts.php on line 255
now it’s no longer pulling posts from the selected category
