I’ve started having this problem intermittently on one of my sites… on maybe 1/4 of page requests, I get an “Error establishing database connection” message. I assume my settings are correct in wp-config because most of the time the pages come up just fine.. a reload is usually all it takes to get past the error.. but I know I’m going to lose some users if these errors keep coming up.

Has anyone else experienced this / any thoughts as to what it might be? I have bb-press installed, and deep integrated… which I’ve heard has been known to make things less stable. My hunch is that I might just be doing too much with the database.. and it’s overloading it..? But I really don’t know much about such things, or if there’s any setting I could change to fix that.

The website is at http://www.evolutionarycollective.com , if anyone wouldn’t mind taking a look at it. I’d really appreciate any thoughts.

  • Intermittent database connectivity problems like that point to problems at the host, which is hostgator. Talk to them, and if the problems persist, consider moving hosts if you need more reliability and site speed.
