When I hit the “Import Feeds” button, my page slows down drastically and i normally get a database error due to the massive amount of data being imported. What is the best way around this?

first, to see if this is a problem with the plugin on your server, go in and choose to get only 1 item from each feed and see if the problem remains..it could be your server is slow.
