Error establishing a database connection

Hi Guys,

I’m a print designer at a marketing company and we recently lost our web designer so I’ve ended up taking over his duties as well. I couldn’t log into our websites word press access so I went into phpMyAdmin and updated the password and the e-mail address in our wp_users page.

As soon as I did this I got an error code when visiting our website saying ‘Error established a database connection’ the whole website has gone down from me changing the password?

I went back in because I’d just typed the password as normal and changed it to a md5 hash password but this has done nothing.

I’d really appreciate any help because if I can’t figure this out I’ll probably lose my job.
