Support » Fixing WordPress » error 5oo – internal server error, on blog editor page

  • Have had 2 pages disappear on me with one showing the error 500-internal server error. The other one is just blank. The pages on the web show up fine, just have no way to edit them now, short of redoing the whole page.

Problem started with the visual editor disappearing, the disable visual editor checkbox somehow being checked, cleared that, emptied the cache, no change, html editor buttons then disappeared, finally the pages disappeared altogether.
Lots of problems with the visual editor going wonky on many of my pages. Have tried Dean’s FCKEditor and TinyMCE Advanced with no luck. Sometimes the visual editor will come back on its own then disappear again.

    Anyone have any ideas?

Using the following plugins with Children and Toys theme:
Akismet, Dean’s FCKEditor For WordPress (deactivated), Fast and Secure Contact Form, FLV Embed, Stray Random Quotes, TinyMCE Advanced (deactivated), WordPress Video Plugin (deactivated), wordTube.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.
