Employer role capabilities

I’m trying to set up the Employer role capabilities to see All Job Listings and Settings when the user is logged in. Currently, they can only see Add New and Job Types.

I’ve installed WPFront End User Role to manage the capabilities. Here’s a list of all the capabilities that are enabled:

publish_job_listings
edit_job_listings
delete_job_listings
edit_published_job_listings
delete_published_job_listings
edit_others_job_listings
delete_others_job_listings
read_private_job_listings
edit_private_job_listings
delete_private_job_listings
edit_job_listing
read_job_listing
delete_job_listing
manage_job_listings
manage_job_listing_terms
edit_job_listing_terms
delete_job_listing_terms
assign_job_listing_terms
read_job_listings

What’s missing to allow users to edit others job listings?

Settings are only manageable by users with the “manage_options” capability I believe, but I would *strongly* recommend not granting this to anyone but yourself.

It will basically make them an admin user of your site, and that’s probably not what you want to do.

Hey thanks. Yeah I don’t want them to admin access.

How can the HR team have access to All Jobs and Settings within the Job Listing custom post type? Is this possible? They need access to be able to manage several job postings. Right now they can only add new job listings and create new job types.

No, at least not without giving them the manage_options capability.

I meant where the custom post type is registered.

THanks. I feel like I’m taking crazy pills, why doesn’t edit_others_job_listings allow for users to see and edit others job listings? What am I missing?

That capability lets you set the author of new or existing job listings, like so:

I think you’re right though, in that the name of the cap is confusing. I’ve filed an issue for that here:

Try using this custom plugin to allow Editors to manage job listings in the meantime:

Hey thanks for filing the issue. I’m all for changing the functionality to support what it says instead of just changing the name!

I tried the custom plugin code and I still can’t access All Job Listings. I used the code you sent and also tried to edit it to add the caps to the Employer role with no luck on either. 🙁 Boo.

At this point, my best guess is that your user roles and capabilities are borked due to some sort of conflict between WP Front End User Role and this code. Without admin access to your site, I’m not sure how to untangle that. 🙁

All I can really say is that the code above works on my test site, where I’ve previously never messed with user capabilities.

OK I figured it out finally! It wasn’t the WPFront End User Role that was conflicting it was another plugin Admin Menu Editor Pro. I didn’t notice that one. I deactivated it and your code worked and the Employer role can now see All Jobs. Hallelujiah!
