Hi, I am a new plugin user and have been experiencing problems with mail send errors. I have double opt in enabled, and when a new subscriber completes the form, they see a message so they will expect an email.

But the email is not sent. I am using the mail plug-in wp-smtp mail, and an O365 smtp mail account. Email is working normally for all other mail functions of the website.

I am using an email log plugin and can see that the newsletter emails fail to send (other emails send ok)

If I then go to the subscriber list, I can click the icon to resend the mail to the subscriber. When I do that the mail always sends correctly.

    Please advise

    Thanks
    Tim

Hi, send a test from the System/Status panel and possibly install the free Outlook 365 addon since their servers has limitations on the number of headers.

Hi Stefano, thanks for the reply. Here is my test.

    1. I did a test from the status panel and that worked.
    2. I installed the outlook free addon
    3. I then subscribed as a new user but the email was not sent to the new subscriber
    4. I checked the subscribers list in the plugin and the new user was in the list as unconfirmed
    5. I clicked to resend the activation email and that was sent immediately

    Any other suggestions?

    Thanks
    Tim

Can you share the site address to make a test?

Hi, I tried to subscribe but no email. You should run a test from our test panel and possibly ask the provider about the mailing service in your hosting server.

Hi Stefano, here are some notes to help describe my situation:

I am self hosting and am using an O365 email service, using SMTP.

I checked the status panel and did some tests which says everything is ok. If I click to send a test message everything works. Every other email from the system works perfectly, every time.

But every time a newsletter subscriber subscribes, then the activation email “fails”. Every other system email both immediately before and after the newsletter activation email are sent ok and there are no failures failures.

So the only problem I experience is when a new subscriber completes the subscription form. Then and only then does that email fail to send.

But if I then go to the subscriber list and click “resend activation” the email is sent to the subscriber without error. I did this for your subscription and can see that the email was sent correctly, just to demonstrate that the system is sending emails

So this problem is very confusing. It appears to be something to do with how the SMTP activation email is constructed by the plugin which is somehow a problem with O365. For example, the newsletter test email works ok. Just not the activation email.

I hope my explanation makes sense!

    Thanks

Hi, the SMTP used to connect to Office 365 is our SMTP addon or another addon? Actually, it should not make a difference.

The real different thing is that when you send the confirmation from the subscriber list, you’re logged in as administrator, while when I subscribe the mail action takes place without a logged-in user.

When I subscribed it took long time to respond, like if a connection to an external system is not responding. Could you have some custom code or like which changes the mailing functionality of your site only for the frontend? For example in the theme?

    Hi Stefano, thanks for replying.

I have your Office O365 headers removal plugin installed. I am using “WP Mail SMTP” plugin for handling SMTP mail, and there is no custom coding in the Astra (free) Theme. There are other plugins which send mail successfully, like WooCommerce, Ultimate Member, WP Forms Lite.

Your subscription email was only sent when I logged in and clicked to resend the activation email to you.

    Any other thoughts?

    Thanks
    Tim
