Email Notification for Comments is Not Working
-
Hi @jesserie,
Author of Better Notifications for WordPress here.Just a thought – have you tried the Post SMTP plugin to help with email deliverability? In my experience, installing an SMTP plugin such as this, can solve most problems with emails not being sent out. It also comes with an email log so you can see if an email is sent but not received or is being blocked by your host or something along the way.
I also have a handy support article about email deliverability here if you need more suggestions: https://betternotificationsforwp.com/documentation/getting-started/how-to-improve-email-delivery/
Hope this helps a bit.
Hi @voltronik Thank you for your reply.
Yes I tried to activate the Post SMTP but with or without the SMTP, receiving and sending notification have No problems EXCEPT the notification for new comments only.Hi jesserie,
How odd!Are the comments happening on posts, pages, or a custom post type?
If it’s a custom post type, it this being added by a plugin or theme? On a certain pages.
I can’t find in the internet who have the same problem as mine. 🙁
@jesserie So just on Pages?
Have you tried with any plugins disabled? E.g. Jetpack.
Have you checked to make sure your Pages are set to allow comments and that comments are set correctly as per the Settings in the WordPress Admin?Yes, comments are enabled for chosen pages only. But I haven’t tried to disabled all the plugins. I’ll go and try that now. Thanks!
I tried to disabled all the plugins and change the theme to twenty nineteen wordpress theme and still i don’t get any notification when there’s a new comments. 🙁
@jesserie Ok. Are you testing the comments on one of your own pages? It could be that comment notifications aren’t triggering because you’re both the author and commenter of the pages, possibly the admin of the site too?
Can you try setting the page author to someone else and then adding a test comment as another user? You can use the User Switching plugin to switch between users more quickly to test without logging out/in.Actually yes! i’m the admin and testing the comment on my own pages. hang on let me try that now. thank you.
It works now!
Thank you @voltronik!

Here’s what I’ve done so far:
– Email notifications are enabled via Settings > Discussion.
– Done to Mail Check that invoke the wp_mail() functions and it succeeds.
– When I’m doing some testings I always check my Spam Folder hoping that comment notifications are there. but its not.
– We can receive notification when new posts are published, contact forms are working as we receive notification with it as well, email updates when something changes in the website etc. Except receiving email notification when there’s a new comments submitted.
– Tried “Better Notifications for WordPress” plugins but still no notification via comments.
