Hey joshplease,
Thanks for the post! I went ahead and checked out the form on your site and tested it out. During my testing it appeared to be functioning as intended. To be solid that we are on the same page – is joe@aol.com an email address that you own, and if so, are you able to access that inbox and receive email?
To clarify a bit, as subscribers sign up to a MailChimp list MailChimp automatically checks their email address out for validity. If the email address isn’t up to snuff, the error you are seeing pops up and the address is not added to a list. To determine if the issue lies with the plugin or the email address being used, could you to try to add joe@aol.com manually to a MailChimp list in your connected account? If the same error crops up when you attempt to add the email address to a list in MailChimp manually, that would indicate that the email address really is invalid and that the form is performing as it should.
Thanks again for the post – please let me know if you need any more help from here!

joe@aol.com was just a sample email we used to see how strict the form validation was.
Here’s an actual address that wasn’t able to make it through:
christopher.l.russell@usace.army.mil
They contacted us directly and said the form wasn’t working. I also manually entered that address and got the same error.
This is a valid email address and we were able to send & receive emails to this address.
Example of error

Good to hear back joshpease!
If you are seeing a validation error in the MailChimp app as well as while testing out the plugin, that indicates that MailChimp validation rules are preventing these email addresses from being added as intended, and not the plugin itself. Because that’s the case, the MailChimp support team would be your best resource if you have questions about why these specific email addresses are unable to be added. Their support options can be accessed by logging into your MailChimp account and navigating to this page: http://kb.mailchimp.com/search
Let us know if you have any other plugin-specific questions we can help with!

Hmmm. A bit of a complication is that we are using a free account.
There doesn’t seem to be a way to contact support without a paid account.

Hi again,
You’re totally correct – MailChimp customer support is provided for new accounts for the first 30 days, and then beyond that timeframe support is available for paid accounts only. Sorry for not clarifying that earlier!
That being said, plugin support is as far as we can go here on the forum. But typically when MailChimp returns these error messages for valid email addresses, there is a reason for that. While MailChimp support is limited to new and paid accounts, the MailChimp compliance department should be able to help you out with this specific issue. They can be reached by emailing compliance[at]mailchimp.com
Sincerely,
Pearl
