editing template using child themes

    Hi ,

    My original thread is here.

    As I mentioned I am trying to duplicate my blogger site here. which is basically to blog sites together. (the blog section is on it own)
    And here is my WP site I am working on. I don’t need to do it exactly but I like it and want to get it close if possible.

    I have created a child theme. to accompany the twenty ten 1.1 theme.

    And now I am searching all the things I need to change. A lot of the answers I get are to change code in the “Templates” section of the dashboard editor. I do not want to touch this since I have a child theme right?

    Do i do absolutely all my changes in the “Stylesheet” ? and do I even need to bother using the file manager on my host or can I just do them in the Dashboards Stylesheet section?

    Any other tips/direction to duplicating what I have from blogger?
    I want to have my header image larger and either have the tabs separate or the area even larger to accommodate. etc.

    You have a text editor on your computer right?
    Open the template you need to change in the WordPress editor,
    copy it and paste it into a new text file in your text editor on your computer.

    Make the changes to this file you need to.
    Then FTP / CPanel upload it into your CHILD THEME folder. Keep the name the same.

    What ever is in the Child theme folder will be called first.

    Make sure the css file you are changing is the one you put into your Child Theme folder when you made that child.

    That’s how I do it, and I always keep a copy of what’s online on my harddrive, and the originals too.
