    Looking for a way to embed an excel spreadsheet that can be edited/updated and viewed as a spreadsheet, not a google doc sheet. Users would have to login with editing or viewing only privileges.

  • I’ve never seen anything like that available before – and I’ve looked (clients wanted this…).

    The bis issue is that Excel doesn’t have anything built-in that will allow any client-to-server communication, so it can’t save any updates if it’s done online. There’s also the big issue that it won’t work unless the user that’s trying to view it has Excel installed in their PC. Anyone without Excel won’t be able to do anything.

    The big question is… What data are you trying to have updated, and why does this have to be done using an Excel spreadsheet as opposed to just about any other system out there?

    My customer knows about Google Doc’s but doesn’t like the formating. He wants his employees to login to his website, add data or view it depending on privileges, to the master excel spreadsheet. His choice, but if it’s not feasible he will make a decision on something else. I’m now searching for that something else…
