Edit static home page

Hey all! So i am trying to create a home/welcome page with a mixture of text and image banners and all that fancy stuff. I’m having trouble finding a way to edit this page with wordpress (like with widgets and plugins do design the images) without it effecting the rest of my website. I know there is a way to do this through code, but i know very little about that i don’t want to mess with it.
