• I logged into my account on my reeves-hall.net WordPress 5.1 site then navigated to an article from 2013 and then clicked the edit pencil which showed me the article up to the phrase ‘Continue reading In memory of Brian Henry, my dad’. Following that phrase were paragraphs from some other post!

So, it seems I cannot edit that post, at least on my mobile. I cancelled out of edit mode without saving as I didn’t want to risk corrupting the database.

Unless this is a systemic problem, your goal should be to find a way to edit what you need in an expedient manner. It sounds like the fetch post function got an archive listing of posts instead of the single post from its API request. Are you using the new block editor to do this? If so, try installing and activating the Classic Editor plugin. You can deactivate it later if you want to use the block editor again.

Other things to try: Use a non-mobile device to edit. Install and activate the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin, then invoke troubleshooting mode. You should be able to edit in this mode. Don’t forget to exit troubleshooting mode afterwards. Finally, you could directly edit the post in phpMyAdmin.

This last option is only feasible for minor changes and if you are comfortable directly editing raw database data. It’s very easy to corrupt the DB if you make the wrong change. It’s advisable to backup the DB before trying this.

Sorry to hear about your dad’s passing. I imagine the grief lingers even after 6 years.
