I am running Windows 10 Pro 64 bit and the Edge browser and I can search plugins perfectly fine.
Try deactivating all plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

Thanks for that info. It was a new install and I had not installed any plugins. The problem seems to be related to my non-standard mouse as when I use a regular mouse it works fine. So maybe nothing to do with WordPress at all.
Thanks again for your help.

Marking as “not a support question” as this is likely some interaction between Edge and my non-standard mouse, not a WordPress problem.
Happy you were able to figure out the problem 🙂
If you have a moment for a follow up on this, that would be awesome!
You mentioned that your mouse was preventing your from searching for plugins, but there’s no mouse interaction involved in the process of searching, could you explain how the mouse comes into play in this process?
Since Edge is such a new browser, and it worked for you in another browser it would be awesome to be certain it’s not an underlying browser problem.

Ah yes you are right – it worked just now so nothing to do with my non-standard mouse. More likely some kind of intermittent Edge problem I guess.
I tried to submit Edge feedback at
https://connect.microsoft.com/IE/feedback
but it told me
“You are not authorized to submit the feedback for this connection.”
so not worth spending any more time on this at the moment.
If it recurs often I may come back to it. Thanks for your interest.
