You’re getting horizontal scrollbars on smaller screen because various elements of your design are set to a width of 1049px. Vertical scrollbars are perfectly normal. Some of your product images are too large. They each need to be less than 180px wide.
Do you know how I would fix the width? I had a web designer do it for me and then she just quit after getting paid so I’ve been trying to figure this all out with the help of a friend. I have resized many of the pics and they still come up like they need to be cropped and most are getting cut off at the bottom. I think I’m just in over my head. Discouraged, to say the least. Are my problems pretty elementary or am I in need of an experienced IT person?
If you want the design altered to that it doesn’t produce horizontal scrollbars on, say, a 1024px wide screen, then, yes, you’re going to need some level of professional help. The design needs to be amended in a few places – though, depending upon your actual requirements – it shouldn’t take a reasonably skilled developer more than 1 or 2 hours to fix.
With regard to your images, first navigate to Admin/Settings/Media and untick “crop to exact dimensions” and make sure that the thumbnail max width is set to no more than about 160px. Remember to save these changes before you move away from that page. Than install and activate the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin. It will attempt to correct any cropping problems in images that you’ve already uploaded.
OK – I did as you instructed and that seemed to help many of them. Since then, I have been visiting EVERY page within WP/admin to learn more about what I’m working with here and played a little further. Some pics just won’t budge. However, many pics are showing distorted once you click on the item. Properties indicates that the image size is 160 x 160 but is scaling at 160 x 800 or something crazy like that. How could that be? Thanks for your help!!!
You may need to check the settings in WP-Ecommerce and/or re-insert the product images.
