• I haven’t started a site yet, but I’m looking into if there is a way to create duplicate (read: synced) child sites from a parent site with a few minimal changes.

Each user who pays for a duplicate site will have their photo and phone number featured on their duplicated site. They will not be able to change any information or content.

I’d like for them to be able to sign-up on the parent site for a child site and then automatically have it setup for them.

Is there a way to do this?

If they can’t change anything, why do they need a site?

More so they will be able to point someone to a URL that is “theirs.” Think of it more as an affiliate site where they will be sending to abc.domain.com or something like that. I just want abc.domain.com to look just like domain.com, except with a few minor details setup and pulled from a database based on the subdomain like picture, phone number, email address, etc.

    Any ideas?

Yeah, I’d make ’em custom PAGES and not sites 🙂

If they’re never going to be using the features of the site (posting pages and posts etc) then why waste your CPU?

Yes, but then they only have access to one page, not an entire site.

Looks like I need more of a custom solution.

What I’m driving at is ‘What do they need a site for if all they have is one page and they can’t edit it anyway?’

It’s not just one page, their information will be setup in the header of every page on the site, along with a few links that are changed based on which subdomain is loaded.

Think of it as a reseller site of a popular product, where only affiliate links and personal contact info (for further questions) are changed. Everything else (multi-page site) is the same.

You MIGHT be able to swing that with New Blog Defaults, but this also may be something in the realm of Custom Post Types.

It .. just sounds like a whole SITE is really overkill.
