• Updated to 3.3 yesterday and get the
‘“image.jpg” has failed to upload due to an error
The uploaded file could not be moved to /var/www/vhosts/sam-weston.co.uk/httpdocs/blog/wp-content/uploads’
    message.
All dialog boxes appear and it fail’s at the ‘100% crunching’ stage.

Been going through the forum and cant really find a deffinative answer to this problem.
I have done all steps in the master list, cleared all server cache, cleared browser cache in FF, IE9, Chrome, Opera and Safari, rebooted the machine just for kicks, installed the Hotfix 0.8 plugin, removed every plugin in the plugin directory, removed any instance of plugins from the DB, checked the permissions of the uploads folder, run the jquery test for JSON, put the theme to twenty eleven 1.3.

I did a manual install, the same way i did it for 3.1 etc.
I’m running unix and apache and php hasn’t changed.

I’m not a php dev’er so i’ve not ventured into the core code, yet!!

Everything else seems to be working but as of yet have not had a good snoop around.

Any help with this upload issue would be greatly appriciated.

  • Is image.jpg an rgb image?

on the image side i’ve tried jpg (rgb and cmyk), png and gif and there all approx 191 Kb, did try one that was 14Mb too, direct download off my camera (not raw).

Only rgb images will work. Did you try the alternate uploader?

    Thread Starter dekay1981

    (@dekay1981)

tried the drag and drop, select files, and browser uploader.

Can you post a url for the image or is it just on your computer?

    Thread Starter dekay1981

    (@dekay1981)

    this is one of them

Got to say though i don’t there is an issue with the images i’m uploading, been doing it for 3 years now 🙂

Contrary to some replies i’m seeing from admin’s/mod’s, it seems there is a wide spread problem with image upload in general.

That is a screen shot. If you had one coming from a url, I would try it myself. If you like you can send me by email. webmaster@ourexcellentadventures.com

no the image im uploading is a the screenshot

scroll down to the bottom of this post it’s to go with the rest of the screen shots

Like i said, this really has nothing to do with what i’m uploading, there is a problem somewhere with the new version of wordpress.

    Thread Starter dekay1981

    (@dekay1981)

been playing with /wp-content/ permission’s and it seems the issue might be setting that to 777 to make upload work but this in inherantly unsafe.
Is there a chance the uplaod scripts have been alterd from Owner to Public to allow upload.

I uploaded the image, http://tsaidiots.com/?p=213, with no problem.

In the past some foks had to change permissions to 777 but only for the first upload. After that they reverted to default permissions. This was when they were having a problem creating the upload directory unlike your problem.

    Thread Starter dekay1981

    (@dekay1981)

yeah when i changed to 777 it uploaded fine for me too (worked fine for 7 uploads) but when i revert /wp-content/ back to 755 it kills it again.
It’s a strange issue that would be handy to have resolved but at least i have a bit of a work around.

    From another thread . . .

Ifyou have access to your hosting server, check if your domain is set to use PHP as FastCGI or an Apache Module. FastCGI will cause upload errors.

    Thread Starter dekay1981

    (@dekay1981)

no set to apache module, i’m my server admin and disabled FastCGI across the whole server as its not good to use full stop 🙂
