This is an excellent idea. I can totally see how having more of the options typically associated with a post (like a published status) would be really cool.
In fact, you can suggest it or cast your vote on other features in our User Voice forum:

I have visited the Uservoice page, but I cannot see the GigPress category.

That is indeed the correct link. But we just don’t have any feature requests yet. When you submit your request it will ask you which category, and GigPress will be there. Once submitted we will not have a GigPress feature request, and so the link will show up.
