download link on wordpress.com front page?

    how come there isn’t a link to the wp download area on the front page of wordpress.com (if there really is a link that i didn’t notice please tell me)?

    putting an obvious link to the download area on the front page of wordpress.com may save folks like me the trouble of spending time clicking on all the various links on the wp homepage in search of the download link. only to finally resort to googling “wordpress download”. i imagine many folks come away from wordpress.com after their first visit thinking that wordpress is only a hosted app.

    because wordpress.com is a different site.

    this is wordpress.org

    when I google wordpress :

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=wordpress&btnG=Google+Search

    the VERY first link I see is, in fact, this site, and it includes a download link as well.

    Additionally, there is a link at the bottom of wordpress.com that points to here for those that want to host their own blog.

    i’d still recommend adding a direct “Download” link to the front page. the existing link is both relatively small in point size and a total of two clicks away.

    too confusing — each site offers its own thing, and Im guessing someone else has already made that decision anyway.

    thanks for pointing that out. a bit confusing. a direct download link would help to reduce the potential confusion. the link could go to wordpress.org (rather that the download area itself) to help make folks aware of the difference.

    not to belabor this but what link are you referring to? The link at the bottom of wordpress.com does go back to wordpress.org

    the paragraph that contains that link even includes the phrase “wordpress.org” within it.
