Hello, is it ok to download the compressed file to my computer and then upload this compressed file to the server (HostGator) and then uncompress the files in the web hosting?

If so, I have seen to versions to download, the “zip” and the “tar.gz”. For this case I have mentioned any of these would work or one is more accurate than the other?

If you have specific questions about your server, you may want to contact your hosting provider as well.

As I know HostGator has one click install from the cPanel, might want to try that.

Yes, but I have read that manual installation have some advantages and also is good to know that way as well

If you are going to install WordPress manually, then do not upload the zipped archive. Open the archive, extract the wordpress file and then upload everything inside it to the relevant folder on your domain.

I’m curious why you think is better that instead of uploading the zip. Could you give me the reasons?

    Thanks

Because you’re then going to have to get the server to unzip the archive for you (if it/you can) and you will not have any control as to the final destination of WordPress on your domain.

Thanks esmi for giving the reasons, well at least that in the file manager can be solved selecting the files and moving them to the desired place (I saw it in a tutorial somewhere)

I was thinking in this way because I’m not familiar with FPT softwares, I have read that filezilla is good but, is that a software I have to install in my computer or in the hosting? sorry for the ignorance if much

It’s free software that you install on your Windows computer. I would strongly advise you to install it and learn how to use its basic functions as an ability to use FTP is an almost essential skill for any site owner.

Thanks esmi, and the other two members who gave their thoughts, very helpful

There are plenty of video tutors on Youtube about FileZilla, here is one of them:
