Don’t Understand Widgets – Need Advice

    Hi guys I’m confused about widgets, how they work, and how the affect other material in a sidebar. I would appreciate some advice.

    I’m running a magazine theme have no active widgets at this point in time theme the Branford Magazine theme but with the Mimbo sidebar)

    In apperance – widgets – I have the choice to select widgets such as RSS, Akismet, Calendar and so on, the sort of widgets you’d expect. However the designer of the template seems to have taken care of all this he has for example included selections for
    Browse Archives
    Entries (RSS)
    Comments RSS)
    Who writes
    all of which I find extremely useful.

    My problem is this there is one particular widget I’d like to install at the very top of my sidebar, ‘Random Quote,’ but if I install it then all the other info in the sidebar vanishes. I can’t figure out how to install it without removing the rest of the sidebar. When I delete the widget all the original info reappears!

    Can someone tell me how to get around this problem.

    That is the default behavior…when you add a widget, everything else in the sidebar is removed (unless it’s hardcoded in). However, you should be able to add everything back as a widget.
