WordPress uses a standard method of sending mail, so your host should be able to advise.

As far as I know, WP uses sendmail

Check on your Administration Panels under Options > Discussion to see if the following are checked:
E-mail me whenever:
[x] * Anyone posts a comment
[x] * A comment is held for moderation
If no, check them. If yes, there is a problem.
I use Ryan Boren’s wp-ContactForm plugin and there’s an Admin Panel, Options, Contact Form screen to complete the email info.
