• I have a static website that is being moved over to WordPress as a dynamic CMS.

    I’d like to preserve the exact urls of all the content, which would require having .html extensions on posts.

    I know you can set the permalink to %posttname%.html – but is there any negative effect of doing so in Google’s eyes? Will my pagerank suffer if the same url (www.site.com/post.html) still points to the same content?

    Is there any benefit to having a physical .html file on the server vs. permalinking .html in WordPress?

    No.

    In other words, if you serve a straight .html file or a .html page that’s been dynamically generated, Google doesn’t know (or care) how it’s actually been created. The important thing is that the URL itself doesn’t change, as cool URL’s don’t change…
