DOCTYPE declaration

    I’m using an older theme and was wondering if I need to update the DOCTYPE declaration? It is currently set to: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

    Hi @jrcollins,

    as written here the DOCTYPE informs the browser which version of HTML (or XML) is used to write the document. If the theme you are using is written in XHTML 1.0, it should be provided with the corresponding doctype.

    I am using wordpress 4.6 what kind of doctye i need to put it on top?
    My Social share plugin is not working properly due to it.
    Please help
