DO we need this ping plugin?

Hi,

I came accross this plug in for pinging,

and it mentioned that the default pinging in v2 Of WordPress has this problem:

That wordpress pings everytime you save a post or edit a post. If this is true then you may be banned on your first day from all the ping sites (as you’re pinging more than once a day). There goes all your blog work!

Is this true?
