Do e-mail followers count as views?

I’m picking up e-mail followers. I guess they get every new post sent to their inbox in its entirety, rather than just an alert that there’s new content. Does this count as a view if they read all the text in the email without actually coming to the blog? Is there a different thing I should be using to log “subscribers”, or is there a way to change the email follow alerts so that it doesn’t send the entire post?
