Dividing categories

Hello All

I have been sifting through a bunch of posts on categories. I haven’t seen anything related to something I would like to do.

Is there a way to create 2 category lists?

I would like to have a two column sidebar. No problem I can do that.

What I am trying to do is in one side bar I would like to have a category that is all photogalleries a Parent category called photogallery then below sub categories by topic.

In the other sidebar have all the other categories (such as current events – non photo stuff) as well as my links, pages…

Anyone have any thoughts?

I think this is exactly what I want to do, I need to learn a bit more php so it doesn’t all look like the matrix. I am open to good php learning sites if you have any, but I am sure I will find some recommendations elsewhere in the forum.

You don’t need any PHP for copy/pasting the template tag(s) in your template files and type/add there the one or two parameters you need.

One more question Moshu, is there a way to determine the number of a category rather than trial and error?

Ah, that’s a stupid mistake the devs made in the lats versions: earlier you could see the IDs in the admin panel.

There is a plugin now for that – just have to find it.
(actually, if you hover over the cat names in the admin panel it will show the cat ID in the toolbar left bottom)
