Disqus comment system

I am thinking to integrate the Disqus comment system on the Decode theme, i will use the official plugin, Scott or someone else, do you thing this is a good choice, i heard it does make a site to load slower, are there any better alternatives, security is very important to me too, or should i stay with the default system.
