Displaying Page and Post Titles

I have a WordPress 4.1.1 site and need some assistance in figuring out how to display the page and post titles. I have created and applied a child theme based on the Boot Store theme (1.6.4). Currently the only file in my child theme folder is style.css

I would like to know how to modify the page templates and/or appropriate .php files so that the page and post titles display at the top of each page. I am new to php and do not quite understand how to locate the right code to change.
