• Since updating Pretty Links last week, we’ve seen a significant discrepancy between clicks recorded by Pretty Links and clicks received by affiliate networks.

This is occurring across multiple brand and affiliate networks.

Our links currently use the 307 Temporary Redirect (legacy) redirect type.

Prior to the update, affiliate-network click volumes were normal. Pretty Links is continuing to record significant click volumes, but only a proportion appear to be reaching the affiliate networks.

Could the changes to click logging/redirect handling in the latest release, particularly when using the legacy 307 redirect type, cause this behaviour?

Would you recommend changing these links to 302 Found, and is there any reason that doing so could affect affiliate tracking?

    Thanks

      Hi there,

Thanks for the details. We checked recent redirect/click-tracking changes, and we don’t see anything that would specifically make legacy 307 stop traffic reaching affiliate networks. For normal GET clicks, 302 and 307 behave the same in the browser, so switching to 302 is fine if you want, but it’s unlikely to fix the gap by itself and shouldn’t hurt affiliate tracking for that kind of click.

The more likely issue in current 4.x is percent-encoded query params getting corrupted on the way through – Pretty Links can still record the click while the network doesn’t attribute it. A fix for that is already in and will ship in the next release after 4.0.15. If you’re on Pro with Redirect Turbo Mode, there’s also a separate case where turbo was sending 302 even for 301/307 links; destination stayed correct, only the status code was wrong.

If you can share your Pretty Links version (and Pro if you use it), whether Turbo is on, and one example pretty URL plus the final destination after a click, we can narrow it down further.

Looking forward to your reply. Thanks!

      All the best,
      Euler.
