Disappearing Sidebar
-
Ever since I upgraded to WordPress 3.7.1, the sidebar on my blog page has gone blank. The space is still there, but the widgets do not appear. Any ideas?

Did you try to remove some of the widgets ? Maybe some of the plugins you use dont work with wp 3.7.1
I also have this problem. The sidebar is there on my other pages but on the product pages the sidebar disappears.

Hi @joe-the-baker,
I just checked your website : it seems that you use a child theme with v3.0.9 of Customizr as parent.
It’s hard to say what happened on WP update. What I can say is that the v3.7.1 works fine with the last version of Customizr (v3.0.13).Since you are using a child theme, you can update your version of the parent theme without risking to loose your custom styles and functions. Be careful though because there as been some changes since v3.0.10 in the templates and hooks.
You might have to adapt a little bit your child theme templates (index, header, footer, comments…) if you created some.See if it changes something.
I hope this will help and look forward to read your feedback on this.
Hi Nikeo,
Thanks for your response. I actually tried to install the theme update when it came out and it took my whole site down. I had to restore it through FTP with the previous version. So I’m a little hesitant to try the update again – I’d rather lose my sidebar than the whole site!
hum ok I understand. Did you do a lot of customizations?
I did quite a bit of customization to the front page/header/footer, but other than fonts I didn’t change much on the other pages/posts.
Previously, the sidebar worked on the blog page if I set the global layout to “right sidebar” under “Customiz’it,” then edited individual page layouts as needed. Now it only works if I choose “force default layout,” and then I can’t get rid of the sidebar on individual pages.
Ok.
If you did few customizations, I would recommend to :
1) update Customizr to the latest version
2) Adapt your existing templates (page, header, footer) in he child theme with the new structure of the theme (it should not be long if you mainly did CSS customizations)
3) Keep your stylesheet style.css and functions.php of the child theme unchanged.
This would fix this issues and make you work with a safer install. Those structural changes (in v3.0.10) were important to make but it will now be pretty stable.
Looking forward to read your feedback on this.Nikeo, I’ve updated the theme, but there seems to be a problem with the functions.php in my child theme. If I use my functions.php file my site shuts down and I get the following error:
Notice: Undefined variable: classname in /home2/joetheba/public_html/wp-content/themes/customizr-child/functions.php on line 58
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home2/joetheba/public_html/wp-content/themes/customizr/inc/class-fire-utils.php on line 139
If I use the updated Customizr functions.php file I still have no sidebar and now I’ve lost my navbar too.
Got the navbar working; still having the sidebar issue though.
Could the sidebar issue have something to do with the way my “posts” (Blog) page is configured? When I’m editing the page and click “preview” it displays the sidebar but not the posts (it’s titled “Home” but it’s not my static front page) Then when I click the “Blog” page on the menu bar in preview it displays the posts, but no sidebar.
Turns out the problem was the Jetpack Widget Visibility plugin. Deactivated it and all is well.
Thanks for this feedback @joe-the-baker. I will work on the compatibility with this jetpack feature.
And congratulation for your design, again!
