Disappearing list
-
Hi! I was just updating my list of banned email addresses, and when the update page returned the list was empty.
I managed to go back a few times in my browser to make a copy of the list and try to update it again, but it keeps coming back empty.
Have I maybe reached an outside limit?
Thanks for any help!

Does a smaller list work?
How big is the list?
Alas, no. Cutting the list in half hasn’t changed anything.
There are about 60 lines/items in the list.
(Thanks for getting back to me. 🙂 )
Similar issue on two of my sites. However, I have found that if I use the Settings->Discussion Page to set the contents of the blacklist, it can be restored correctly. If I try to use the list in Tools-Ban Hammer, I lose a significant part of the list when I save the update.
Same issue here. Only 3 items on the list, but when I hit Update Options they disappear. Running WP 4.31.
Okay, I can’t reproduce this at all. I tested on a clean site and I’m able to add up to 60 items without an issue. Then I added 20.5k addresses and that blew up my database (as expected) but it worked. 173 worked on a shared host running PHP 5.4 and WordPress 4.3.1 and 4.4.
amyty and van24, are you on single site or multisite? (jmemmott, I know you’re on single, tools doesn’t exist like that on Multi)
Are you both on 2.5.1 of Ban Hammer?
What version of PHP and WordPress?
What other plugins do you have active?
Different question.
When you say ’email addresses’ do you mean foo@example.com or do you really mean domains like @example.com only?
I CAN reproduce it on email domains only, and I know why that happens. I’ll push a fix, but I want to be sure I have this right.
Hi again!
I think a multi-site, shared webhost with Dreamhost, if I understand your question correctly!
As to your second question, yes, there are a lot of domains in my list, rather than single emails!

WP Approve UserAs to your second question, yes, there are a lot of domains in my list, rather than single emails!
A lot or ALL? There’s a big difference here 🙂 If they’re ALL domains, then I know what’s happening and I can fix it. It only SOME are domains, then I have two problems at large.
A lot, not all!
Many of these I think were either from an old list or the original banhammer list(?), maybe snagged from my other block list that goes with comments – which could mean I broke banhammer. 🙁
I did a back-up in case I’d need it:
1stopgolfpromoshop @799fu.com @hotmail.com @yahoo.com Ankit Araceli @old.syfyman.com @general.insurple.com @poczta.pl @monkey.levening.com Carrylync mynameis.cheapgreenteabags.com Clarinda @yandex.com @mail.ru @abv.bg Fendi Bags Guenceabeda MARKETING Meriejoy SEO Scuppygag SeoOptimizationGuide.com bond.feamail.com SipepicyCib Victoria Secret Weaticietry Yessenia agrivaliaxert aliexpress animalliberation.org.au beauty.adsuse.com beijingescort beijingmassage cellulite.adsboards.com emkenforsenate http://mass-traffic-software.com kashisale.com laradouta lingerie marketing massage massive-auto-traffic massive-automatic-traffic.com mihuerta.org obpmilling potty training shanghai massage shanghaiescort shanghaiescortf7 somaiya viagra viewdesigncompany vuitton website layout website132.com www.highland2007.com mailyouspacce.net masok.lflinkup.com
Looking over this list, actually it DOES look like all my emails are just email domains! I hope this helps!
It does! Pushing a fix now!
So what happened was that I was adding in sanitization to ensure no junk data gets into the database, preventing XSS risks. Aaaaand I check for
sanitize_email()
and not text field. *SIGH*And I am overjoyed to report that this is resolved!
Thank you so much! 😀
Thanks for confirming it was the domains that did it. That made sense as soon as I realized that 🙂
