    Hello –

We just launched a new project, upon doing so we switched from Test Mode to Live – in doing so, somehow Klarna, Affirm, Google / Apple Pay, and Link were automatically enabled when they were disabled previously. Is this intentional?

    Thanks

    Hi @viablethought,

Thanks for reaching out about this.

To answer your question, yes. As part of a mid-2025 update (version 9.7), Affirm and Klarna were automatically enabled at a promotional price for eligible merchants. Similarly, switching to the standard checkout experience may have re-enabled some express payment methods like Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Link by Stripe.

To disable any of these methods you don’t want active, you can:

    1. Go to WooCommerce → Settings → Payments → Stripe → Payment Methods
    2. Uncheck the box next to any payment method you’d like to disable
    3. Click Save changes

I hope that helps. Let us know if you need anything else.

Thanks, I just didn’t understand when our client emailed us 5 minutes after going live stating that there were Google / Apple Pay and Link buttons on their product pages. Since everything was disabled previous, I wouldn’t have expected these to be re-enabled after switching to “Live”. I guess this is something we need to be aware of moving forward. Kind of strange that this behavior is intended – especially since it was our intention to not even use them to begin with.

    Thanks

    Hi @viablethought

I understand the confusion. If the express checkout methods had been disabled previously, it would certainly be unexpected to see Google Pay, Apple Pay, and Link buttons appearing immediately after switching the account to Live mode.

Could you please confirm whether you are currently using the latest version of Stripe, 10.8.2?

There was a known issue in an earlier version where Express Checkout methods could be enabled automatically under certain circumstances, and this has already been addressed in a recent update.

If you are already using version 10.8.2 and encounter the same behavior again in the future, please let us know. We’d be happy to investigate further.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

I’m going to mark this as resolved, as we haven’t heard back from you in a while. Please open a new thread if you need further assistance.
