Different styling for categories in loop

I was wondering if it was possible to have multiple stylings for posts in the loop. I know how to make a category template but what I’m wanting to do is this: Have normal entries appear one way and then have headline entries (links to stories, little snippets, etc) appear in a different styling.

The only thing I can think of at the moment is to only have one headline story at the very top of the blog and just pull the latest entry from the “headline” category. I am not sure if that would even work or not but it sounds feasible. I would prefer having multiple headline entries though.

I hope I made some sense with this post! I am probably horrible at describing what I would like to do. If anyone has any suggestions I would be greatly appreciative. Thanks.
