• Hello,
I want to develop a wordpress theme and submit it to the wordpress theme directory. I will build a couple more once the first one gets into the directory. My question is, can I build by grabbing a theme boilerplate such as the Bones by Themble (themble.com/bones) or any other starter theme(lets say Twenty fourteen) and do my customizations on them or do i need to build everything from scratch?

  • You can build upon a boilerplate such as Bones or Underscores, but I wouldn’t recommend building a theme off an established theme like Twenty Fourteen. The problem with building off something like Twenty Fourteen is that you’ll likely spend more time ripping out the things you don’t need, whereas boilerplates have the bare minimum and you can add what you need later.

Thanks. if what i develop complies to the wordpress theme standards, it will be accepted into the wordpress theme directory right? I mean even if it is developed upon a boilerplate and isn’t built from scratch?

Yes. I’ve had multiple themes accepted that were all based on Underscores.
